Talking Point: Situational Awareness
Your #1 defense is paying attention. As you move through your day, pay attention to how many people aren’t paying attention. Their eyes are buried in a screen or down on the ground to avoid eye contact, earbuds are in and they are largely disconnected/disengaged from the world around them.
The “Ambush” is the most effective method of attack to quickly overcome an adversary with minimal risk and effort.

Focus on Ground & Pound. Once you get them down, get them out [of the fight]. If they are willing to physically attack you, consider them a threat until they are incapacitated, unconscious or otherwise effectively restrained.
Always base your response on the totality of the circumstances.
You will notice that the [assumed] defender briefly employs Hammer Fists and Forearm Head Slams, but fails to eliminate the threat.
The [assumed] attacker uses Deception to mislead the defender, pause the effective suppression of his attack and then gain control of the circumstances to reattack in a far more advantageous position.
Never go looking for a fight, but if “a fight finds you”:
De-escalate if possible.
Defend yourself to gain position.
Attack the Attacker to gain control of the circumstances.
Retaliate based on the requirements to Eliminate the Threat.
Subdue the Attacker, if reasonably possible.
Incapacitate the Attacker, if reasonably required.
