Part 02 - Grappeling Development

Tuesday Strength & Conditioning + Edged & Impact Weapons Defense

Training Goal

  • Prepare mentally and physically to withstand an attack and overcome the aggressors.

Objectives Part 02

  • Expand our effective striking foundation to consistently land clean, effective strikes.

  • Enhance our functional strength and stamina to outlast an opponent.

  • Continue developing strategies to overcome a larger, stronger opponent.

  • Learn to defend the Takedown.

  • Learn to affect the Takedown.

  • Control the Ground & Pound

  • “Extended limbs are broken limbs!”

  • The Defender uses the Attacker for balance.

  • The Attacker trips himself because of the Defender’s continual pressure.

  • The Defender scrambles to the [sloppy] RNC.

5:15-5:45  Strength & Conditioning Circuit  

5:00 Striking Review & Shadowboxing

  • We will shadowbox while covering each strike and discussing strategies behind specific combinations.

  • Head Movement Drill…Fade, Duck & Slip

    We are improving natural reactions, working distance management and reinforcing the “Make Them Pay” strategy. This drill also warms up the entire body and helps prepare it for more strenuous activity.

    • Rear Uppercut to Lead Slip (from Cross),

    • Lead Slip to Lead Hook,

    • Lead Hook to Fade (from Uppercut),

    • Fade to Cross,

    • Cross to Duck (the Lead Hook),

    • Duck to Rear Uppercut,

    • Rear Uppercut to Lead Slip (the Cross)

5 Sts x 2 Reps = 10 Rds x 1:00/0:30

Rds 01/02  Rear-Hand Catch, 1, 2 to Counter an Attack

  • Catch w/ Head Movement to avoid being punched. 

  • 1 to disrupt their plan (nose is the target, aim small to miss small) and measure up.  Attack their vision and air intake. 

  • 2 to suppress the threat and begin creating distance. Same target, same attack, but with more power. 

  • Reevaluate or re-attack. 

 

Rds 03/04  1, 3 to Close Distance 

  • 1 to disrupt their plan (nose is the target, aim small to miss small) and distract, as you close distance.  Attack their vision and air intake. 

  • 3 to suppress the threat and close distance.  Strike the mandibular angle area of their jawline. Attacking their Central Nervous System, looking for the “off switch”.  

  • Continue attack (Elbows, Knees, G&P), hold and reevaluate or create distance.

 

Rd2 05/06  4, 2 to Create Distance 

  • 4 to disrupt their plan and distract, while beginning to create distance.  Strike the mandibular angle area of their jawline. Attacking their Central Nervous System, looking for the “off switch”…you may get a (1) Punch OK.

  • 2 to suppress the threat as you continue to create distance, aiming for their nose. 

  • Continue attack to maintain or expand distance (Teeps, Push Kicks, Turning Side Kick) or Break Contact.

 

Rds 07/08  1, 2, Rear Horizontal Elbow to Close Distance 

  • 1 to disrupt and measure up. 

  • 2 to deliver power (further disrupt) as you close distance. 

  • Lead Hand Clinch, holding their head at the base of their skull, and Rear Horizontal Elbow. Strike the bridge of their nose. 

  • Continue attack (Elbows, Knees, G&P), hold and reevaluate or create distance. 

Rds 09/10 1, 2, Rear Push Kick (or Check Kick) 

  • 1 to disrupt and measure up. 

  • 2 to deliver power (further disrupt) as you maintain distance and measure up. 

  • Rear Push Kick to suppress the threat by taking their air, while creating distance.  Aim Center Mass (striking their diaphragm/heart area.  

  • **OR** Check Kick their knee to disrupt their mobility / ability to close distance. 

  • Continue attack to maintain or expand distance (Teeps, Push Kicks, Turning Side Kick) or Break Contact.

  1. Bag Shoot & Smash Scramble,

  2. 25 lb Plate Squat Press - BOSU for Balance,

  3. 10 lb Plate Throw Press,

REACTION DRILL OVERVIEW:

Based on our continued training, here’s an outline of our [standard] Rection Drill.

  • Catch the attack with the Lead Hand.

  • Slip to the left and Cross (#2) to the Body, impacting the diaphragm to temporarily disrupt the Attacker’s ability to breath properly.

  • Lead Hand Hook (#3) to the Body, impacting the liver area to lower Attacker’s right hand and deter their assault via effective pain application.

  **It’s a #2 Liver shot if you’re orthodox. If you are southpaw, it’s another shot to the diaphragm, with Floating Ribs.

  • Lead Hand Hook (#3) to the Head, impacting the Mandibular Angle area to lower Attacker’s right shock the Nervous System, disrupt the assault and begin rendering the Attacker incapacitated.
